Course Introduction
This is an MHFA England training course and can be delivered face-to-face or online. Our instructors have hands on experience managing people in a mental health crisis.
Course Overview
This course covers the following topics:
- Recognise those who may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
- Practise active listening and empathy
- Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
- Discuss the role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
- Practise self-care
- Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
- Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England
- Learn beyond the course through membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®
Learning takes place through a mix of instructor-led training, group discussions, and individual and group activities. Each session builds on the previous one, enabling learners to gain confidence in supporting others with a Mental Health First Aid action plan. We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that our instructors can keep people safe and supported while they learn
This course does not train individuals to be a councillor or therapist. This MHFA England certificate is valid for 3 years.

Outdoor First Aid 12 Hours
Learners who complete this course will be equipped with a broad set of skills enabling them to administer first aid in challenging outdoor surroundings, which may be a few hours away from the support of the emergency services.

One-to-One work with individuals on a range of topics like stress, anxiety and overwhelm.
Forestry First Aid 2 Hour Course
This course is ideal for those who work or intend to work in a forestry, agricultural or remote environment, such as tree surgeons and farmers
